AI Search Visibility: How to Get Your Brand Mentioned in AI Answers

How ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews choose which brands to mention, and practical steps to make your brand easier to find and recommend.

More buyers now ask an AI assistant for recommendations before they visit a website. If ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews leave your brand out of the answer, those buyers may never hear of you.

There’s no way to buy a place in these answers. There are practical steps that make your brand easier for AI systems to find, read and describe correctly.

What Google says about AI Overviews

Google’s documentation on AI features and your website says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no special optimizations needed. The same SEO basics apply: pages must be crawlable, indexable and helpful.

Other AI assistants work differently from each other, and their makers share less detail. The steps below are good practice for all of them, but no one can guarantee a mention.

Steps that make your brand easier to mention

1. Say clearly what you do

Your home page, about page and product pages should state in plain words what your company does, who it is for and how it differs. AI systems can only repeat what they can find and read.

2. Use the same names everywhere

Use one spelling of your brand and product names on your site, social profiles, directories and press mentions. Mixed names make it harder to connect mentions to one brand.

3. Answer real questions on your site

Publish pages that answer the questions buyers ask, such as comparisons, pricing explanations and how-to guides. Clear, factual answers are easier to quote. Our keyword research guide shows how to find those questions.

4. Earn mentions on trusted third-party sites

Reviews, industry lists, news coverage and community discussions all shape how your brand is described. Aim for genuine mentions on sites your buyers already trust.

5. Keep the technical basics right

Make sure search engines can crawl your key pages, that important content is in text rather than inside images, and that each page passes our on-page SEO checklist.

How to track AI mentions

  1. Write 20 to 30 prompts a buyer might ask, such as “best tools for tracking brand mentions”.
  2. Run them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode each month.
  3. Record whether your brand appears, how it is described and which sources are cited.
  4. Compare the results over time and with your competitors.

Doing this by hand gets slow as your prompt list grows. A shared spreadsheet with one row per prompt and one column per assistant keeps the results easy to compare.

What to expect

AI answers change often, and the same prompt can give different results on different days. Look at trends across many prompts over several months. One missing mention on one day doesn’t mean much.
